My lovely girlfriend surprised me for my birthday by booking up a few days away in Berlin. If anyone is thinking of going i cant reccomend it enough! Easily the best city i have ever been too.
We were in Prenzlaur Berg which is in the East of the City, ideal location as there are plenty of second hand clothes shops to keep my girlfriend occupied while i spent all my Euro’s on records.
The plan of attack was to check Johnny D on Friday at Weekend but as we were up at 3.30 in the morning to get our flight we were both shattered by the evening so decided to get an early night. Saturday morning saw us checking out Charlottenburg in the West, im sure there are some cool places there but we couldnt find them so heading back East. One of the great things about the shops out there is in the week they dont open till 11, 12 on Saturdays and stay open till 8 at night. Ideal for those of us who like a lay in!
For the past four years the Respect team have partied on a boat every wednesday through the summer in the centre of Paris. The music policy is wide open with everything from. Rock, Techno, Disco, Soul, Funk, Pop, Italo Disco, New Wave, and P Funk.
This years line up has some pretty impressive line ups, nights that stand out for me are…
MER. 23/07 : UNDERGROUND CLASSICS AVEC KERRI CHANDLER (NYC), FUNKY CHOCOLATE & LIVE SAX BY NADIR
MER. 6/08 : PRINS THOMAS & TODD TERJE (OSLO)
MER. 13/08 : THE MARTINEZ BROTHERS (NEW YORK) & SVEN LOVE (CHEERS)
MER. 10/09 : DAVID MANCUSO (DISCO PIONEER FROM THE LOFT NYC) & PILOOSKI
French Promoters Respect Is Burning first starting throwing parties back 1996 on a wednesday night at a club in Paris called Queen. The night ran every wednesday for three years and in that time guests included Francois K, David Mancuso, Basement Boys, Ashley Beedle, Dimitri from Paris, Daft Punk, Philippe Zdar (Motorbass), DJ Gregory, DJ Deep, plus many more.
In 1999 they stopped their weekly night and took ‘Respect Is Burning’ on tour, from Tokyo to Caracas, Kuala Lumpur to Sydney, Oslo to Miami, Cannes to Lisbon, with some famous residencies at Vega Copenhagen, Fuse Brussels and of course Twilo NYC! Plus a special gig at the Playboy Mansion. After touring the worlds best clubs for 3 years they decided it was time to return to Paris and throw some parties, the result, ETE D’AMOUR!
Local promoters Lloyd and Fazz have just launched their brand new website, along with news of the upcoming parties there is a nice gallery section and also some online mixes to download. They currently have a live mix from Greg Wilson recorded when he played for the guys last year. Very tasty!!
Straight after ‘Slave 1′ Mark E brings us two big cuts on the Creative Use label. Up first is “Sun Shadow” which cuts up a bongo groove thats seems to build forever, teasing the vocal for about 5 mins. On the flip “Night Mover” is a proper heads down groover.
Its been along time coming but the new album ‘Full Circle’ is finally here!
As well as the album containing the singles ‘Put It On’ featuring Sweden’s Ernesto, and ‘Love Someone’ with house music legend Robert Owens it also contains the bangers, ‘I Forgot You’ and ‘Parallels’
